Check out its Grain Pattern

The strong, tight curl seen in this wood sample is very characteristic of Maple.(credits to wood-database.com)

Next, you have to check out its grain pattern.

It could either be open porous or smooth in texture with no indents.

Just by observing the pattern, you can say how it was cut.

Lacewood features lace patterns, while Maple’s grain has that “butcher block” appearance.

See if there are unique characteristic figures.

Soft maple wood has more pronounced curly figures close to one another compared to those of Birch or Cherry wood.
