Take a whiff off some dust of the wood and determine if it has an odor that you can quickly identify.

If it reminds you of roses, probably it’s Rosewood.

Some wood species fluoresce when exposed to other forms of radiation.

Other types of wood would also produce a dye when put under water.

These include Osage Orange and Rengas woods.
