Western Red Cedar smells like? Believe it or not, freshly machined wood can have a very identifiable scent. When your eyes and hands can’t quite get a definitive answer, sometimes your nose can.
You may also look for exceptional characteristics like its smell, ability to fluoresce, and leach-ability.
Take a whiff off some dust of the wood and determine if it has an odor that you can quickly identify.
If it reminds you of roses, probably it’s Rosewood.
Some wood species fluoresce when exposed to other forms of radiation.
Other types of wood would also produce a dye when put under water.
These include Osage Orange and Rengas woods.
